   Ireland plays host to both Grass Polo and Arena Polo

 

Some Interesting Facts about Polo in Ireland:

  • The first recorded polo match played in Ireland was in Co. Carlow, in 1872.
  • The All Ireland Polo Club, Phoenix Park, Dublin was founded in 1873 by Horace Rochfort of Clogrenane, which makes it the oldest polo club in Europe
  • There are 159 players in Ireland making up 10% of the Hurligham Polo Association
  • There are 9 polo Clubs throughout Ireland
  • Polo Wicklow is the first and only All Year Round Polo Club in Ireland, founded in 1993
  • The highest goal Irish player is Lord Charles Beresford who holds a 5 goal handicap

Ballyhenry International 0-4 Goal

Polo Wicklow hold the 4th International 0-4 Goal at Ballyhenry. 2 teams are expected from England as well as the usual Irish teams, again we are limited to 8 teams so book early!

Newport International Series

Ireland will be sending a team for the 15th year to USA to compete against Yale University and then in the Newport international Series against USA in front of over 2500 people. This year the father/son/father/daughter team of Siobhan and Michael Herbst and David and Davo Stone will reunite.

Waterford Tournament

Continuing the tradition of spending bank holiday weekend in Waterford, the Waterford Polo Club will be hosting their 12-22goal tournament. As always this is a very popular tournament  played on the picturesque grounds of Tom Driver at Rockett's Castle.
